The Body Shop promotes its Community Fair Trade Programme through upcoming Advent Calendars
The cosmetic company is seeking real change through ethically sourced ingredients and packing, not just through their annual Advent Calendars, but all year round.
Christmas time is a period of joy and giving, and that’s what The Body Shop aims to do with this year’s Advent Calendar launch. But it’s not just a good friend or a loving family member who will benefit when you gift them one of these goody-filled calendars. The cosmetic company is using its 2022 Advent Beauty Calendars to help celebrate its partners within the Community Fair Trade Programme.
The Body Shop’s Advent Calendars draw focus to the brand’s overall philosophy that seeks not only to enrich our bodies but to do so in an ethical and sustainable way. In fact, the beauty giant has always promoted ethical products such as its range of vegan products that are ethically tested. This is true to the idea behind the brand when it first opened in 1976, which was to be a means to do good by being a positive change in the business world, whereby the beauty they seek is not just cosmetic but reaches out more broadly worldwide to create a beautiful and fair planet.
More than Just an Advent Calendar
The Community Fair Trade Programme specifically aids The Body Shop’s partners and suppliers within their own communities, such as women in areas without economic opportunities. According to The Body Shop itself, around 1.5 million people in India are ‘waste pickers’ cleaning up the streets of India, but are also subject to horrible working conditions and exploitation. Through the programme, The Body Shop purchases recycled plastic for packaging at a fair price from waste pickers, thus aiming to give these suppliers more stability.
With regard to their Shea Butter from Ghana, The Body Shop states, “Receiving a fair price is providing an independent income for the women and also helping to empower them through increased confidence and respect in their community. We also pay a premium price to help fund community projects that positively impact [lives].”
